A couple months back when I was asked to be part of the Indie Chicks anthology I was actually dealing with a really personal situation in my life at the time. I was at a crossroads and had an important decision to make, one that I never saw coming.
For a couple days when I tried to write my little tidbit for the book, I just sat there and stared at the blank page on my computer. And that's not like me. I don't outline when I write--I just wing it, and that usually works great for me. Not only that, ideas flow so quickly when I'm in "the zone" I can't type fast enough and often times lose them before I can get them out. So it's strange for me to sit here in my little ship without my compass...errr...GPS to navigate me through the writing waters.
I ended up writing a piece, and I was happy with how it turned out. From that, all kinds of things started happening to me. I edited a non-fiction book for a writer who wrote a story about how she gave up everything to move to an island and start again with her husband and few possessions. All she wanted was a simple life. It was inspiring. And then I read two books after that which had a powerful impact on me and my current situation. Needless to say, I feel like a completely different person than I was a couple months ago and have a whole new outlook on life. I'm even creating a vision board. Oh, yes. It's true. Pictures and the whole shebang.
So let's get back to Indie Chicks and how my little rant today ties in. I am now reading Indie Chicks, and just like the other books I've read lately, it has offered me many things: inspiration, strength, positive energy, unity, and much more. It's the kind of thing that, in the end, I was left feeling like we are all connected in this life and that a lot of us deal with similar things in our lives. And we're not alone, and we are as strong as we allow ourselves to be.
Indie Chicks will pull you in and make you proud to be a woman. And if you're a dude (and I say DUDE because I hail from the wonderful California), it will make you appreciate your woman. Trust me, it will.
Other than the fact that the anthology is wonderful and will always hold a special place in my heart, all the proceeds go toward breast cancer research. AND it's only $1.99. Need I say more?
